you have been the one, you have been the one for me

last night i sat in front of the tv with clenched fists. i couldnt move. i couldnt think. i couldnt breathe.

two points

under sixty seconds.

and when it was over i didnt hear anything. i put my head between my knees and held my face with both hands. i couldnt feel anything.

five points

and no seconds.

and then the tears came. i cried and cried and cried. i didnt want to look up. i didnt want to see anything or anyone. it was just too much to handle.

we won.

charles kurault once pondered what it was that binds us to this place, this city upon a hill, this university of the people. i wondered the same thing while i walked up the hill from the apartment, soaked in bubbly swinging my powder blue tshirt high in the night sky. i wondered why the students would all be out on franklin street, jumping up and down in jubilation. i threw my hands up in the air with them and i cheered.

and then this afternoon when the team returned home, we cheered some more. roy said it was incredible that he could win this championship for our alma mater. for our school. the two thousand fans in the dean dome thought so too. yet another championship banner for the
rafters.

at the end of the year, instead of congradulating the team, we thank them. we thank them for bringing the glory back to our school. we thank them for bringing the pride back to all of us.

we thank them for reminding everyone what color the sky is.

final national ranking number one.

and never second.
