you have been the one, you have been the one for me

last year, the carolina tar heels defeated the uconn huskies in chapel hill. it was the same story the year before and it was the same story in connecticut this year.

that team, the huskies, went on to win the ncaa championship in mens basketball last year, defeating the georgia tech yellow jackets. that was a pretty good game. uconn was lead by junior emeka okafor, who left college ball after only three years, not because he was a cocky bastard and had dollar signs in his eyes, but because he was done. as in finished with his undergraduate degree, with a 3.97 gpa to boot.

okafor finished second in the voting for the naismith award, given to the national player of the year, to jameer nelson. he really was the best, better than all comers that year. he also had alot of tattoos. i believe the proper word is 'sleeves' of them. but one in particular was unique in that it went all the way across the back of his shoulders and his jersey never really covered it up.

all eyez on me.

this phrase is a reference to the album and song by the same name performed by 2pac shakur, the late rapper who i met at a bar a few months back. a geniunely nice guy and a geniune musical genius, the likes of which we may never see again. 2pac himself had a bunch of tattoos as well, most notably the words 'thug life' across his stomach. he also had a large one on his back; a stylized cross with the words 'exodus 18:11' on it.

this particular line from the scripture varies greatly from version to version, but it goes something like this:

"Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods; for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly, He was above them."

in last nights nba all star game, there were a number of egos present, as is the nature of all star games in general. hubris on display, like some kind of twisted zoo. kobe, shaq, tmac, carter and the lot of them were outshone, beat at their own game of one-upsmanship by the little engine that could from philly. allen iverson played exceptionally all around, unselfish and talented as ever and everyone knew it.

when they dealt proudly, he was above them.

allen iverson is very famous for his tattoos. they are part of his image and part of his personality and part of him as a man. when a basketball magazine airbrushed out his tattoos for a piece on him, iverson was enraged. he told the press that he was insulted and said that "these arent just tattoos to me." he has one in particular running down his left leg that reads 'east end,' a reference to the area of newport news.

east end martini bar is a local watering hole located at the same corner as the courthouse and post office. on thursday nights they have 25 cent drafts. yes, you read that right, 25 CENT DRAFTS ALL NIGHT. the small print is a $5 cover and ugly bartenders. paris was out that night with a guy she dated over the summer and she kept calling me and texting turkish saying come over come over and i didnt care. i was at east end with turkish and attaboy and gdot and we watched dook lose to virginia tech and we drank and cheered had a good good time.

it must be a small world after all.
