if you're a betting man, and you happened to be in vegas the weekend before the nfl season started, the line on either new england or philly making it to the super bowl was somewhere between 2 and 3:1. that made them the favorites, by far, over everyone else. indianapolis, for example, was 40:1.
don't ever say those guys in vegas aren't any good.
not only is philly v ne in the super bowl the matchup that vegas predicted, but its the one the nfl wanted.
because the nfl is racist.
not for the reasons tony said, though. the nfl isn't necessarily holding the black man down, they're just raising the white man up. just look at how the league deifies the great dynasties of yesteryear.
montana. young. aikman. bradshaw. kelly.
and in the past few years, when the nfl has finally once again had an opportunity to put a team on the great altar of white quarterback-led destined-for-greatness teams, they do their best randy moss impression and jump at the chance.
the nfl pretty much hit their gameplan going into sunday's final four matchups. cuz no matter who won those games, the super bowl would be between a white and a black quarterback. interesting.
dig deeper. look at the matchup. even the front page of espn.com had a big big picture of the two opposing quarterbacks. one who happens to be white and has 2 of the last 3 super bowl rings. and the other, who's not. ask a 9 year old kid or sean salsbury, and they'll break it down like this.
tom brady and adam vinateri v. donovan "deezy mcneezy" mcnabb and terrell owens.
tagliabou, the white commisioner, sent out a memo press-release style to the office and it read like an epic novel. "and finally, the chosen ones will rise above, casting the heathen down, bringing peace and order to all the land."
and then he woke up. with a big big grin on his face.
the best players in the league are black. thats a fact. the best players in the league are randy moss and michael vick. but the only people who aren't aware of this fact are those that work at the nfl. they dance around the press questions with things like oh, they are very exciting players to watch and players like them are what make this league great.
people tuning in to XXXIX don't want to watch tom brady, or bill belichek, or vinateri. they want to see mcnabb play action scramble juke high step spin for a touchdown. they want to see terrell owens catch a mcnabb throw for another touchdown, get on top of a human pyramid, and do handstand pushups.
fans want to see the score read 69-17 and laugh at the white commisioner while he tries to fine the scoreboard.
because thats what football is all about.
guess who im cheering for.
